Holiday Pet Safety Tips
Packing on the pounds is a Thanksgiving tradition for most of us, but it can be a dangerous time for our four legged family members. A diet high in fat can be extremely harmful to your pet's health, and even though it's only once a year, the change in diet can not only lead to obesity but some digestive issues as well. Feed your pet their normal pet food and refrain from over indulging them with table scraps!
Watch the table, an unsupervised table of food can be more than just eye candy to your pet. Keep food covered and away from table edges. An easier solution might also be to keep them out of the dinning room during dinner time, this can also help curb the urge to feed them while your eating.
Secure your trash, keep the trash cans out of reach of your pets. Its very easy for them to knock it over and get to the turkey bones.
Watch for your pet while your cooking, sometime the little ones get under foot and create a disaster when carrying hot food items. Keep all of your pets out of the kitchen.
Watch for escape artists through open doors when guests arrive. It's always best to have a collar with an id tag on your pet so if they do escape they can be returned home quickly. Also if your pet is microchipped make sure the information on the website is up to date.
We hope you, your family, and your pets have a very safe and happy holiday season.
